DALLAS (AP) -- Brian Boucher picked a good time to string together consecutive shutouts.
Playing for just the 10th time this season on his 27th birthday, Boucher made 35 saves to post his second consecutive shutout in the Phoenix Coyotes' 6-0 victory Friday night over the Dallas Stars.
"It's nice to contribute any way you can," he said. "It's a nice feeling. So when I get in, I certainly want to do my part. I got an opportunity and I'm trying to play."
Boucher had gone 85 games between shutouts before beating Los Angeles 4-0 Wednesday night. He made 21 saves in that victory.
"We had some chances to score, but he came up with some big, big saves," Stars forward Rob DiMaio said.
Meanwhile, Dallas received sub-par play from its goaltenders.
Stars coach Dave Tippett intended to give regular starter Marty Turco a rare night off, but instead pulled backup Ron Tugnutt late in the first period after he gave up two goals on seven shots. Turco didn't fare much better, finishing with 15 saves on 19 shots and giving up two questionable goals.
"We were hoping (Tugnutt) could jump in and give us a spark, but we got down early and we wanted to change the momentum by putting Marty in," Tippett said.
The Coyotes pulled within one point of the Stars in the Pacific Division and were a step ahead of them all game long.
Dallas showed some life in the third period, recording 18 shots and forcing Boucher to make several excellent saves. But the Stars already trailed 4-0 at that point.
"Brian was sharp in the third period, the team was sharp in the first two periods," Phoenix coach Bob Francis said.
Chris Gratton, Shane Doan and Daymond Langkow each posted a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, and Daniel Cleary had two assists. Ladislav Nagy, Brian Savage and Branko Radivojevic also scored for Phoenix.
Phoenix got on the board 3:44 into the game, only six seconds after Dallas's Bill Guerin was whistled for high-sticking. Nagy lifted a rebound shot over a prone Tugnutt for a 1-0 lead. The Coyotes went up 2-0 at 16:09 after Tugnutt got caught out of position behind the net.
Cleary stole the puck from Tugnutt and poked it out front to Gratton, who ripped a shot into the empty net. That prompted Tippett to pull Tugnutt and replace him with Turco.
Turco then gave up a soft goal on a long wrist shot from Doan at 1:37 of the second period. Savage made it 4-0 at 18:41 of the second off a nice cross-ice pass from Gratton, and Langkow fired a wrist shot past Turco at 7:22 of the third.
Another questionable goal against Turco came on a power play at 17:35 of the third when Jeff Taffe squeezed a wrist shot through Turco, and Radivojevic poked home the loose puck.
