DALLAS (AP) _ The Dallas Stars weren't going to let another point slip away.

Stu Barnes' short-handed goal with 8:37 left broke a tie and helped the Stars stretch their home unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 3-1 victory Friday night over the Minnesota Wild.

On Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Kings, the Stars gave up a the lead with less than six minutes left in regulation and had to settle for a 1-1 tie, costing Dallas a precious point in the Western Conference playoff race.

``We were obviously frustrated after what happened in the third on Wednesday night,'' Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk said. ``We just wanted to play as a team and give ourselves a chance tonight.''

With Stars left wing Brenden Morrow in the penalty box for slashing, Dallas defenseman Jon Klemm passed in the slot to Barnes, who one-timed a shot past Wild goaltender Manny Fernandez for a 2-1 advantage.

``Klemm made a great play, the credit has to go to him,'' Barnes said. ``He made a great pass. I had the whole net to shoot into.''

Barnes, who had one goal in his previous 22 games, scored his ninth of the season. It was the Stars' first short-handed goal since Dec. 22, when Jere Lehtinen got one against Carolina.

Andrew Brunette put the Wild in front 35 seconds into the second period, before Philippe Boucher pulled the Stars even at 13:17.

Bill Guerin knocked in the rebound of his own shot with 5:43 left in the third, his 25th goal of the season, to close the scoring.

The win extended the Stars' home streak to 7-0-3, the league's longest current run. Dallas is 12-3-3 in its last 18 overall and continues to put the pressure on first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division.

Dallas reached the halfway mark of a franchise-long eight-game homestand on Friday night, winning three and tying one of the first four.

Meanwhile, Minnesota lost for the fourth time in six games (1-4-1). Fernandez, winless in his last 11 decisions (0-5-6), had 28 saves.

Ill-timed mistakes like allowing Barnes' short-handed goal are costing the Wild.

``It seems like it's the little details that are biting us,'' Fernandez said. ``We might have run out of gas a little.''

With 18 games left, the Wild are fading in the playoff race. Minnesota has 60 points, 10 out of the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot.

``That team (Minnesota) is scrambling for its life and we needed to make hay at home,'' Stars coach Dave Tippett said.

Dallas' Marty Turco stopped 18 shots for his 29th victory, one behind New Jersey's Martin Brodeur for the NHL lead.

Stars center Mike Modano was back in the lineup after missing the final two periods of Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Kings due to a strained groin.

Modano turned in a strong game for the Stars, who limited the Wild to four third-period shots.

``We always feel like once we get a lead, we're capable of holding on,'' Modano said. ``Once we're ahead, we're doing the things that got us the lead in the first place. We're now looking to get that insurance goal. We took control in the third.''
