DALLAS (AP) _ Marty Turco quickly rebounded from letting a shot from outside the blue line get past him by stopping a penalty shot.

Turco made 22 saves and set the team record for minutes played, and the Dallas Stars beat the Calgary Flames 5-1 Friday night to extend their home unbeaten streak to a franchise record-tying 13 games.

Rhett Warrener's goal from 70 feet out in the second period cut Dallas' lead to 2-1.

But Turco went on to win his 31st game, equaling a career high, and has played 3,749 minutes this season, surpassing Ed Belfour's record of 3,689 in 2000-2001.

``He gave up a goal I'm sure he'd like to have back, but he also made some unbelievable saves,'' Stars coach Dave Tippett said. ``The momentum started to switch but stopping the penalty shot ... got the momentum back on our side.''

Calgary's Shean Donovan was awarded a penalty shot at 17:30 of the second period with the Flames trailing by a goal. Donovan was skating in alone on the Dallas goal when he was hooked by defenseman Jon Klemm and then pushed to the ice by Klemm's defensive partner, Don Sweeney.

On the penalty shot, Donovan tried to make a move near the net, but he lost control of the puck, which was smothered by Turco.

``That was a critical point in the game and I wanted to be there for the guys and contribute,'' Turco said.

Donovan's skate hit a rut in the ice, forcing him to change directions.

``I wanted to go backhand but I caught an edge that forced me to go the other way,'' Donovan said. ``There's no excuse. I've got to be better. That was a free chance.''

Mike Modano, Pierre Turgeon and Jason Arnott all had a goal and an assist for the Stars, 9-0-4 in their last 13 home games, the league's longest current streak.

Rob DiMaio and Brenden Morrow added third-period goals for Dallas, 12-2-3 in its last 17.

Dallas is 6-0-1 in the first seven games of a franchise-long eight-game homestand and moved five points ahead of Calgary in the Western Conference standings.

The Stars pulled within four points of the first-place San Jose Sharks in the Pacific Division.

Dallas finishes their homestand against San Jose on Sunday.

``We're just trying to close out the homestand really strong,'' Modano said. ``What the other teams do is their problem.''

The Stars cashed in on a two-man advantage at 13:16 of the first period when Modano scored from the top of the right circle.

Turgeon made it 2-0 at 4:51 of the second period, knocking in the rebound of Modano's shot from center point.

The Flames got within 2-1 at 11:52 of the second when Warriner's shot got past Turco.

Arnott, DiMaio and Morrow had third-period goals for a commanding 5-1 lead.

``You can't fall behind 2-1 and 3-1 against a team like this on their home ice,'' Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. ``It's impossible to win.''
