PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Midway through Tuesday's game against the surging Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin knew this night was going to be different.

``I started to feel that way in the second period, after maybe 30 minutes: `OK, tonight may be my night.' I just had to stay focused,'' Aubin said after stopping 45 shots for a 4-0 victory that snapped Dallas' nine-game unbeaten streak.

Aubin has four victories in 17 appearances this season.

Aubin, who made 38 saves in a 7-4 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday, broke Joe Daley's 35-year-old Pittsburgh record for saves in a shutout. Aubin made 20 stops in the third period to record his sixth career shutout and first since Oct. 12, 2002.

``He played outstanding,'' said center Mike Eastwood, whose third goal of the season at 10:07 of the third period closed the scoring. ``He won the game for us.''

Aubin was particularly sharp. He stopped Mike Modano's shot from the right circle late in the second period and denied two power plays in the third period. His glove save on Richard Matvichuk's drive from the top of the left circle helped the NHL's worst penalty-killing team stop all six Dallas power plays.

``He was awesome,'' said Milan Kraft, who set up Jon Sim's seventh goal in the first period and Aleksey Morozov's 10th goal in the second.

Matt Bradley also scored for Pittsburgh, which owns the NHL's worst record, but is 5-2-1 in its last eight games. The Penguins have won three consecutive games for the first time since Jan. 13-17, 2003.

Dallas, 8-0-1 in its previous nine games, missed a chance to move into a first-place tie in the Pacific Division with San Jose, which lost to Minnesota later Tuesday. The Stars have lost three of four road games.

``We had better not take anyone for granted,'' Dallas forward Bill Guerin said. ``They played a heck of a game, but that shows what happens when you don't show enough respect for your opponent. This is one of our most disappointing losses of the season.''

Sim scored his seventh and first with Pittsburgh 6:03 into the game, emerging from behind the net to stuff the rebound of Kraft's shot past goaltender Marty Turco.

With Aubin pulled during a delayed double minor to Dallas' Jason Arnott, Bradley took a pass from Rico Fata and fired a 20-foot wrist shot from the right circle past Turco for a 2-0 lead at 9:55 of the second period.

Morozov took a pass from Kraft in the slot and made it 3-0 just 1:03 later on the ensuing power play.

That was more than enough support for Aubin.

``He played extremely well, and our defensemen let him see a lot of shots,'' Pittsburgh coach Ed Olczyk said. ``They did a tremendous job of boxing out and not letting their forwards get to the net, because they have some talented guys and they have some players with size.''

Dallas coach Dave Tippett saw things differently.

``(Aubin) played well, but I don't think we had near enough second chances,'' he said. ``That is the willingness to get to the net and create second chances, bottom line.''
