LOS ANGELES (AP) - Just when the Dallas Stars were feeling safe with the lead and mere seconds left, the Los Angeles Kings spoiled everything.
Mattias Norstrom scored a power-play goal in overtime, giving the Kings a 3-2 victory in a matchup of the Pacific Division's top teams Monday night.
Trailing 2-0, the Kings stunned the Stars on power-play goals by Lubomir Visnovsky with 1 second left in the second period and 27 seconds remaining in the third. Michael Cammalleri drew penalties that led to both goals.
"He's such a strong skater and he's taking the puck to the net hard," said Norstrom, playing on his 34th birthday. "That's going to create a situation where the opposing team has to pull you down most of the time."
The victory extended the Kings' lead to four points over the second-place Stars, who have lost four straight to Los Angeles, including a 3-2 defeat in Dallas on Saturday night.
"We just battled all night and never quit," Kings left wing Luc Robitaille said. "It was pure hard work. It was a very rewarding victory."
Mathieu Garon made 31 saves for the Kings, who have won four of their last five games. He also assisted on Norstrom's winning goal at 2:29 of overtime.
Norstrom's slap shot off a pass from Visnovsky was just his second goal of the season.
"We were fortunate to get the power play in overtime, and it's always fun to take advantage of that," said Norstrom, who had the first overtime goal of his 13-year NHL career. "Our power play has been struggling from time to time this year, but the last six games we've really turned it around."
The Kings rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring three consecutive goals against Dallas goaltender Marty Turco. He made 24 saves and didn't give up a goal until the final second of the second period, when Visnovsky scored the first of his two.
"We certainly deserved a better fate," Turco said. "You want to close those kind of games out, but a bad bounce is all it takes. We've put ourselves in a position to be close to the top of our division by not letting things that we can't control bother us."
Visnovsky tied the game at 2 with 27 seconds left in the third when his shot went off Turco's right pad and slid slowly across the red line as the goalie made a desperate stab at it.
"I felt like we kind of handed it to them, which doesn't sit too well," Turco said, "but we've got to play again in a couple of days, so it really doesn't matter."
In overtime, Dallas' Jason Arnott was sent off for tripping 40 seconds in. That set up the winning 4-on-3 advantage for the Kings.
The Stars led 1-0 in the first when Jussi Jokinen took a pass from Sergei Zubov ahead of two Kings defenders and scored on a power play. Jon Klemm made it 2-0 early in the second.
Notes: Kings RW Dustin Brown left the game in the first period because of an upper body injury. ... Dallas C Stu Barnes missed his third straight game because of a groin injury. ... The Stars' Dave Tippett coached his 200th NHL game. ... The announced attendance of 18,118 was the Kings' 12th sellout of the season.
